Welcome To The

Little Acorns Foundation Unit

Welcome to the Little Acorns Foundation Unit at Stoke Canon C of E Primary School. We are a friendly welcoming Foundation Unit dedicated to providing a happy, safe and exciting environment for children to learn, develop and discover their potential.

At Stoke Canon C of E Primary School children of Pre- School age (From 2 years old) and school Reception age learn and play together sharing our well-resourced indoor and outdoor areas. The children in the Foundation Unit follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) underpinned by the school’s vision and values.  Nurture and Grow Together through Compassion, Integrity and Kindness and through a caring Christian atmosphere. Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned, purposeful play, and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activities. Practitioners respond to each child’s emerging needs and interests, guiding their development through warm, positive interaction.

We have been Ofsted registered since December 2009 and our last inspection, which was carried out in October 2022, resulted in a 'GOOD' outcome.

We recognise parents/guardians are a child's first educator and we work closely with you, to enable us to meet the needs of each individual child in our care. We work together with you to ensure your child reaches their full potential.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Little Acorns Foundation Unit follows the EYFS framework which sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to five.  The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

Parent Involvement

We are continually striving to improve our setting and value the opinions of children, parents and their families. We know that working in partnership with parents/guardians will give each child the best possible experience and outcome at Pre-school. We therefore welcome any suggestions, comments or involvement, including volunteering to help out at a session or coming in to tell the children about your work or hobby. Any volunteers in Pre-school will require a background check (DBS) to find out more see our Admin Page.
