School Events 2025/2026

Harvest Festival

A service was held in Stoke Canon Church. Each class took part either with singing,poems,prayers or art work and making bread. Parents were invited and it was lovely to see such a great turnout to give support to the children.

Donations were requested of dry food items to donate to St Petrocs and also to Exeter Foodbank. These items have been gratefully received.

Yew Class(Yr1/2)- Building Activities.

Anti Bullying Week

On 10th November so as to show "To make a difference" as part of Anti Bullying Week everyone was asked to wear odd socks to school.

Friends of Stoke Canon School

Several events were arranged by the parents who make up Friends of Stoke Canon School. These events involve raising money to be used for extra curriculum activities. These range from Cake stalls whereby the parents of a certain year group donate cakes and then they are sold at the end of the day.

A pyjama party/Film night was held in the school hall.

Bingo evening and Quiz evening.

The Summer Festival in the school field involves a lot of organising but is enjoyed by parents and children. There is a raffle where all prizes are donated by local organisations. Stalls involving Yr 5/6 organising and running them. Visit by a tractor, magician, food tasting, tombola and a sporting activity.

A fun afternoon.

A Colour Run - the children collected sponsorship money to raise funds on how many laps they could run around the school field passing all the different colour stations.

Armistice Day- Rewe War Memorial Yr 5/6.

The children and staff attended the Armistice Day service at the Rewe War Memorial with the local community.

The children laid a wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of the staff and pupils of Stoke Canon School.

Fencing with Premier Sport

Grenville House Residential at Brixham -Yr 5/6

The Residential was for 5 days in Grenville House at Brixham overlooking the harbour and the fish market. The centre is operated by experienced instructors in water activities as well as land activities. The main aim is for the children to enjoy all the activities but focus on teamwork. The activities included canoeing,kayaking, raft building,abseiling, indoor climbing, high wire and teamwork. The weather was very cold which restricted some of the water activities but land or indoor activities were experienced instead. A fun week for all.

KS2 visited Charmouth.

The classes had been studying rock formation and fossils. They visited Charmouth and went to the Education Centre and n to the beach to see rocks and fossils,

FOSCS Christmas Wrapping Presents

Donations were requested by FOSCS for Christmas Wrapping Presents. Each child was given the chance to choose 2 presents to wrap and label to take home to place under the Christmas Tree for their parents as a surprise.

Christmas Lunch

All the children were able to sit in the School Hall to enjoy a Christmas Lunch. As per usual there was a visit by the Big Man himself dressed in the red suit.

Aztec Art

Oak Class(Yr5/6) were studying The Aztecs and part of their project was to create some Aztec Art.

Parliament Assembly for KS2

A representative form the Houses of Parliament came into the school and did a special assembly. The children were told about the Houses of Parliament and what it involves in simple terms for the younger children especially to understand.

Volcanos- Yr 3/4

Yr 3/4 built their own volcanos after learning about them and carrying out experiments,

Archery

All classes were able to learn the skill of Archery.

Yr 3/4 played football against Clyst Mary.

Reading for Pleasure.

As a school we are promoting Reading for Pleasure. We asked for pictures of children reading for pleasure in unusual places.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day by children dressing up as their favourite book character.

The morning started when parents and children were invited in for breakfast of croissants and juice.The parents were then able to share reading a book and enjoy the time before school day started

During the day there was a parade in the playground.

The older children were able to share and read books to the younger children.

Comic Relief- Red Nose Day

The children supported this event by coming to school in "Something Funny". A small donation was requested and this was then passed on to this worthy cause which raises so much money throughout the country.

Heatree Residential -Yr 3/4

For 3 days Year 3/4 visited Heatree Residential Centre on Dartmoor. The weather was glorious and they were able to partake in lots of different activities.

Easter Prayer Space

The Ethos Group assisted Rev Tim and Rev Deborah with the different stations in the Church and The Bridge.

The stations were depicting the Easter story from Palm Sunday, The Last Supper to The Cross.

Plant Sale 1st April

A plant sale was held after school with donations of plants and the stall was run by the Eco Council Pupils.

Science- Yr 5/6 (Oak Class)

Year 5/6 were studying different types of leaves . They explored the leaves in the school grounds and the Churchyard.

Eco Council-Making Bird Feeders

The Eco Council made bird feeders. These were placed around the school and topped up with bird seed.

Easter 2026

This year there were several challenges. The first was to build or make something that could either be thrown or moved a certain distance carrying an egg without breaking it.

Prizes were awarded for the longest distance form each year group.

The children were then divided into groups to build the highest tower from spaghetti and marshmallows. This then had to be team work with Yr 5/6 being the team leaders helping all the younger members of the school to be involved in this activity.

Great Stoke Canon Bake Off.

This event was organised by FOSCS. The cakes were judged and prizes awarded. At the end of the day the cakes were sold off at the school gate. All money raised is given back to the school to purchase extra curriculum activities or used to subsidise school trips.

NERF Games

Premier Sport organised NERF games with the children wearing protective glasses. This was a team building exercise.The pictures are from Yr 1/2 (Yew Class)enjoying the fun activity.

Science Yew Class(Yr1/2)

The children were exploring plant life in the school grounds and the Churchyard.

Eco Council-Butterflies

The Eco Council were able to watch the life cycle of the butterflies and then they were eventually released to enjoy their life in the school grounds or nearby in the Churchyard.

Forest School-Yr3/4 (Chestnut Class) at Clyst St Mary

All the activities involved team work. At the end of the session around the camp fire everyone was able to toast their marshmallows.

Trip to Buckfast Abbey-KS2

The children were able to learn different techniques when learning about "Nature in Art".

They were able to see the equipment that is used when keeping bees and the hives where the honey is made.

Forest School-Yr5/6 at Clyst St Mary

The activities and games were based around team work.

Water Challenge-Yew Class(Yr1/2)

A water challenge on a very hot Summer day !!

Purse Making by Yr 3/4

This activity showed different skills of cutting and sewing.

D & T - Yew Class (Yr1/2) & Oak Class(Yr5/6)

The older children assisted the younger children in their recent D& T lesson.

This involved planning, recording and making of their models.

Sports Day

This event was eventually held by some difficult hot and sunny conditions.Each children is part of a team and they collect points form the many events if they come in 1st,2nd or 3rd place. The points are added up and the team with the most points is awarded the cup.

Races involved running, sack race, skipping, egg and spoon race,obstacle race with hoops and bean bags.

Parents are invited and at the end of the afternoon there was a very competitive race with the Fathers!

Oak Class(Yr6)

To celebrate Year 6 leavers they had a rounders match against the Staff. The Staff won! Back to school there was a BBQ and the Leavers hoodies were presented.

A service was held in the Church where some of their favourite hymns were sung. Memories were shared of their time at Stoke Canon School.Parents were invited to the Service.At this service an award of "Pupil of The Year" is given and that child has been nominated by the staff. A special glass ornament is given to the child which they keep for a year. Their name is then placed on an engraved plaque on the Pupil of the Year award which is in the school reception entrance. Each child was presented with a Bible by Rev Tim Collins and after the service refreshments were served.

An end of year production called "Hot Dates" was performed in Church in front of the parents and school. Year 5 participated in the production as well.
