Reception/ Year 1

Welcome to Lime Tree Class

This half term our topic has been 'Growth and Change'. This topic is great for encouraging your child to explore and investigate the natural world around them. Some of the activities this term have included planting seeds and learning about what they need to grow, studying different parts of a plant and the purpose of each, going on scavenger hunts to identify both wild and garden flowers, investigating the life cycles of frogs and much, much more!  Please see the attached topic webs for further information about what your child will be learning in class.

Kind Regards,

Claire Taun

Phonic Fun

I have included some website links below that I sometimes use during our phonic sessions.  The children enjoy playing these games and find them very engaging. The aim is to use your phonic knowledge to decode real and nonsense words and sort them correctly. This game is a fun way for children to practice using their decoding skills.

Learning about capacity!

This morning we have had lots of fun learning about capacity in our outdoor area.

We made predictions about which containers would hold the most and through comparisons discovered that the tallest container does not always hold the most! We even had a race using two different containers and noticed how the races were not fair as one bottle could hold more than the other!

We have been using the vocabulary full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty to describe how much our containers held to our friends.

We have also begun to look at how liqud is measured in litres and millilitres and used our knowledge of this to help order some of Miss Taun's bottles.

What a busy morning!
